CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
Phil Horvitz serves as Chief Technology Officer for Apptis and maintains a position on the Apptis Board of Directors. As CTO, he is responsible for setting the technology vision and strategy for the company. Phil has pioneered several technological innovations that have served as market differentiators for Apptis. He leads the Apptis Advanced Technology Group that is developing and delivering cutting edge solutions ranging from Cloud Computing to Cyber-Security.
Under Phil’s leadership, Apptis announced a market-leading service offering, enabling the federal government to take full advantage of the benefits of cloud computing in a secure, trusted, and federally compliant manner. The offering, known as FedCloud, is a service currently being offered to federal agencies.
Previously, Phil was founder and Chief Executive Officer of General Data Systems (GDS), a consulting company specializing in the design and implementation of highly available, mission critical systems. His ongoing work has lead to a 30-year partnership with the Department of State, playing a vital role in the development of the U.S. Passport system.
Phil received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. He remains active with the University and is an elected trustee on the University’s Board of Trustees. In addition, he serves on the Board of Visitors at the College of Computer, Math, and Natural Sciences. In 2003, Phil created the Horvitz Professorship, enabling the University to attract Dr. Steven Salzberg, one of the world’s leaders in the successful effort to decode the human genome.
